Course Structure
20 hours of learning. Participants must complete 10 hours of online learning and 10 self-verified hours (module exercises, resources, discussion forum and reflective learning log). Technical Support provided.
Compulsory elements - 2 discussion forum posts per module, Reflective Learning assignment, creation of personal learning record. You must complete the required time on the course before a certificate can be issued.
Certification and EPV Days
All Anokha Learning Summer Courses for Teachers have been approved by the Department of Education & Skills for EPV Certification. Start and completion dates printed on your Cert.
EPV days awarded as follows:
1 course – 3 EPV days, 2 courses – 4 EPV days , 3 courses – 5 EPV days
If you buy two or more courses you must only complete one course at a time.
Duration
For 2026 our courses will commence on Wednesday 1st July and all courses must be completed by 5 pm on Wednesday 22nd July. If you buy two or more courses you must only complete one course at a time. As per the DES criteria you must complete the required time on the course and your start and completion dates will be printed on your Cert for your EPV days.
Course Modules
Explore the role of Modern Foreign Languages within Irish primary education. Examine key policies, including the Primary Curriculum Framework and Languages Connect, and develop an understanding of how MFL supports broader competencies such as communication, wellbeing and learner engagement.
Examine how linguistic and cultural diversity can be used as a resource for learning. Explore inclusive approaches that value pupils’ home languages and promote a positive, plurilingual classroom environment. Use SSE to reflect on your school’s readiness and capacity for MFL.
Focus on building language awareness through playful, engaging strategies such as songs, games, storytelling and cross-curricular links. Explore how to create print-rich, language-aware environments that foster curiosity and confidence in early language learning.
Develop practical approaches to teaching basic communication skills in a chosen language. Explore progression from awareness to communication, including the use of themes (Téamaí), and examine assessment approaches that support pupil learning and confidence.
Explore how to embed MFL within whole-school planning. Use SSE to identify priorities, develop an action plan and ensure sustainable implementation. Consider the role of digital tools, parental involvement and community links in supporting long-term success.
About Jenna Fitzgerald
Jenna is a primary school teacher with over 20 years of experience working in a DEIS 1 school in Wexford. Throughout her career, she has taught in mainstream classrooms, special classes and has also served as a Home School Community Liaison teacher.
She holds a primary degree in International Commerce and French from UCD and spent a year studying in a business school in France, where she also had the opportunity to explore additional languages, including Russian, Italian and Spanish.
With a lifelong passion for languages, she has always embraced opportunities to bring her love of language learning into the primary school classroom.
