Lesson plan (20 to 30 minutes)

  1. Warm-up. Share one place you have been and one place you would love to go.
  2. Left foot. Children write or draw places they have been: holidays, trips, schools, classrooms, and things they have learned.
  3. Right foot. Children write or draw places they want to go: a holiday, a new class, secondary school, and hopes, goals and things to try.
  4. Share. Partner talk, or a few volunteers share with the class.
  5. Close. Display the sheets, or keep them to look back on later.

Tips for teachers

  • Infants can draw instead of writing
  • Offer sentence starters: “I have learned…”, “I am proud of…”, “Next I want to…”, “I would love to go to…”
  • Children never have to share. Sharing is always optional
  • Keep the sheets and revisit them at the end of term

More ways to use it

  • September: a settling-in reflection at the start of the year
  • January: a fresh start for the new term
  • June: looking back before moving class
  • Any time you want a quiet wellbeing activity
